Your guide to seasonal portraits
Your guide to seasonal portraits. Seasonal portraits can bring such a unique quality to your portraits! But timing them can be a little tricky. Waiting for things to be in bloom, then determining how long they will be in bloom for. It can be a scheduling mess at times, but i promise it is well worth it.
Jess and Tyler’s session was shot at a dreamy flower farm during the month of September. We had been waiting patiently for the the big beautiful false dragons to take bloom. Once they do take bloom you have maybe a month before they are gone till the next year. When it comes to florals that is very common and something you have to be prepared for. It’s a game of wait and see and scheduling can be a little last minute, or at least within a week or two time frame. So if a flower garden is the type of session your looking to do that is just something to keep in mind. There will be different blooms for each season. So spring will hold its own beautiful display, then summer and then early fall. Unfortunately flowers do not typically stay in bloom in our area after the first frost. Best thing to do is check in with our local flower farms and see what they plan to have blooming during that season.
Vineyards are also great for seasonal portraits!
Vineyard sessions are some of my favorites! Shea’s motherhood session was shot at a local vineyard around July, so right in the heat of summer. With vineyards there is a little more time when it comes to scheduling your session. You can have good luck typically through the months of May through October. Orchards can also be another great options. In the Spring they will typically have beautiful blooms, or you could always do a session with the apples on the trees when they are in season!
“Laken Brown Photography made it so easy from booking the venue and creating this lovely vision, to the client wardrobe. We literally just showed up and she had the cutest outfits picked for us to wear. She snapped images as we sat and giggled and played in the grapevines at Sassafras Spring Vineyards and it didn’t even feel like pictures! It was such a good experience and pictures with my babies I will cherish for such a long time. Thank you Laken for the motherhood shoot I didn’t even know I needed!”
