Creating organic connections during your family session
In this post you will find some helpful tips for creating organic connections during your family session that produces images full of joy and emotion. Having family pictures done does not mean everyone has to be perfectly posed looking at the camera saying cheese. In fact it is actually quite the opposite. I love to capture those real organic moments. The moments filled with joy and silly giggles. Those are often the images that are loved most and really tell your families unique story. So here I want to share a few tips with you that will help achieve those organic connections in your families images!
Here are 4 tips for creating organic connections during your family session.
From a Rogers photographer:
- Now this first one may be obvious, but try to relax! I know that picture day can get stressful, and I promise to try and take as much stress of your shoulders as possible. I will be here to guide you through the whole process. You’ll also have access to my style guide along with any pieces you would like to use from my client wardrobe. I’ll also help you with picking the perfect location for the time of year. All you have to do is show up ready to make some memories cuddling and laughing with your loved ones.
- Try to plan ahead. I know that is much easier said than done, and making changes to daily routines is not always easy. But when it comes to younger kiddos planning ahead can really help. I like to schedule all my shoots for around a hour before sunset. So depending on the time of year that can put your session being later in the evening. So planning for little ones to have a nap before hand that way they are not tired and cranky is always a good idea. Also making sure everyone has a full tummy and not hungry can help too.
- Let’s have some fun! During your session there will be times when I ask if you all want to play some games! Depending on the ages of the kiddos we may play some things like ring around the rosy or London bridge. Playing games is a great way to lighten the mood, and get everyone having fun. There will also be times through the session where I may ask you to tell your partner or children something sweet. So I may say “mom, can you tell (child’s name) something you think makes them special” or “dad, can you tell (child’s name) something they do that makes you proud of them”. We all love to hear kind things said about us, so telling them things you find special and love about them is sure to make them light up!
- Lastly, try to stay positive! If there is a kiddo not wanting to listen or stay in the group for photos, thats OK! Let them have a few minutes to roam and explore, then bring them back to the group for a fun game and I will capture some fun candid moments of you all together! But even when things may not seem to be going perfectly as planned if you can keep smiling and stay positive, the better they are going to respond.
The best photography experience!
“Laken is so easy to work with and offered one of the best photography experiences I’ve been a part of. I love her dreamy wardrobe selection and style of photography. Being relaxed made for a wonderful experience for my girls too and is reflected in the outcome of our photos. They’re beautiful and some of the sweetest, natural captures of my love for my girls, their love for me, and each other. I’ll treasure these photos and this experience for years to come. Favorite shoot to date and looking forward to the next one.”
